How much data can they store?

Depending on the size of the USB flash drive that you buy and whether or not they are on sale, they can be anywhere from $10 to $120.  You can usually find a good deal on 1GB flash drives in most online stores.

USB flash memory is not the best option if you are looking for a long term backup of a large amount files due to the basic size constraints i.e. backing up a 300GB hard drive to a set of USB flash drives would be insanely expensive.  However, if you are looking to transfer files from one computer to another or just need a copy of important work or personal data that doesn’t stretch into hundreds of gigabytes then a USB flash drive is readymade for this kind of work.
